But then the unthinkable happens. With your digital camera in hand you connect to the PC but the photographs can not be retrieved; they are lost. What could cause such a catastrophic failure and more importantly, how could a repeat of this scenario be avoided?

All digital cameras and phones usually have some internal memory built in when you purchase the product. Almost all new phones now give you the option of adding external memory and using this to store your music, photos and videos on. While they all do the same thing in providing you extra storage they do come in different sizes. The standard SDcard memory is usually used in digital cameras, while camera phones primarily take advantage of the smaller miniSD card and the even smaller microSD card. The high end digital cameras will use up to an 8GB compact flash card and some games consoles such as the Game Boy advance use an M3 adapter with an SD/TF card.
